The Office of the Secretary supports machinery of government processes, manages critical issues related to the administration of Government, and is primarily responsible for responding to Right to Information requests (via its delegated statutory officers) and appointments of Heads of Agencies and Authorities.

The services provided include inter-departmental support for the preparation, scrutiny and processing of documents, key advice for the department through to the Secretary and Deputy Secretaries, support for the Department of Premier and Cabinet’s Executive Management Group and advice to the Premier’s Office, Ministerial Offices and departments on machinery of government and other administrative law matters.

The key objectives of the Office of the Secretary are to:

• maintain comprehensive timely and accurate services and provide advice to support the machinery of government;
• manage critical issues that are highly sensitive and may impact on the successful implementation of the Government’s overall administrative framework;
• develop and implement mechanisms to support open and accountable government; and
• acts as the primary link between the Department and the Office of the Premier.

The Office of the Secretary also includes the following work units:

• Cabinet Office; and
• Executive Council Secretariat.
